VIOLIN & GUITAR LESSONS

Every person is born with an innate understanding of rhythm and enjoyment of music. Unfortunately, that inborn knowing and joy is all too often extinguished by inept music instruction. Whether overwhelmed with too much theory too soon, or with unproductive repetition without enthusiasm, children and adult students rightly reject such soulless music lessons.

By contrast, my approach to music lessons begins with the student themselves. What are their goals, background, propensities and ambitions? Each lesson is completely tailored to the individual student in the moment. Do you need evening lessons? Lessons that last for more than an hour? I take my cues from my students, strengthening their weaknesses, and building on strengths.

My lessons are not limited to music, but include the whole student and all of life experience. I have worked with many adult students who had unpleasant experiences in music class as children. They tell me that after taking lessons from me, their relationship to music and to their instrument changed profoundly, and that their music practice has become a source of deep joy and fulfillment. This is perhaps my greatest compliment, because this ongoing deepening and expanding relationship with music is the gift which I seek to pass along to all my students.
